Below are a few misc. pictures from January & February, followed by Jeremy's 5th birthday in March.

Trip to Taft I - 02/10/02

Taft is where I was born and lived for the first 7 years of my life.

This year we learned that Grandpa Werling was very ill and would soon be passing away. Taft Trip I are photos we took from the first trip up to see Grandpa Werling. Taft Trip II is the trip up to the funeral.

Our first stop was the house I lived in as a kid on Wood St. For years my kids have heard the story of how I climbed up on the garage at this house and grabbed the electric wire strung from the garage to the house when I was 5. My plan was to crawl from the garage to the house. I still have scars on my thumb and finger where the wire melted to it.
601 Buena Vista St. used to be a very cute house when I lived there as a kid. My dad had converted the garage into a billiard room with a bar. I was surprised to find the actual bar in the back yard. At the age of 6, I was often appointed bartender. But after leaving the spicket open I was promptly fired.

Conley School, where I went to kindergarten and first grade. My first grade was underground of the middle photo. Jeremy took a digger on the playground, like his dad did on that paved hill many times 30 years ago.

Art's Corner, where I spent the eve of my first day of kindergarten. The return of the pool table was not working, so dad took me there because my little hands could reach up and grab the stuck balls. On the plus side I won a trophy playing a drunk guy at pool.

Trip to Taft II - 03/17/02

In March we went back to Taft for Grandpa Werling's funeral, and spent the night at the house one last time. Click here for Uncle Dick's account of Grandpa's funeral.

Padres Baseball 06/20/02

We recently attended a tailgate party with BBQ and a Padres game, courtesy of our dentists, Gray & Williams. We all had a good time.

July 4th - 7/04/02

I know everyone thinks we moved to the "big city" when we left for San Diego county. These pictures of our local parade should prove that even though we are close to the big city, we still live in a hick community! O.K., maybe quaint is a better word.

Jeremy & Julie were the only ones that went to the parade this year (we all went last year), so they are the only ones pictured. The row below has the pictures with Jeremy & Julie before they went to the parade (sewing, relaxing in the "tub", and planting seeds in our broken hot tub we converted into a gopher-proof garden). The ones below that are at the parade, the pictures below that are of the July 4th parade, 2002.
